QuickBooks Legacy Bank Feeds Are Being Phased Out: What Tradies Need to Do

QuickBooks is beginning to phase out its older, or “legacy”, bank feeds from August 2026.
If your QuickBooks file still uses a legacy bank connection, you will need to upgrade it to Open Banking. Leaving it too late could result in your bank transactions no longer flowing automatically into QuickBooks.
The first deadlines are approaching
Legacy bank feeds will be progressively disconnected between August and December 2026.
The first deadlines are approaching
Legacy bank feeds will be progressively disconnected between August and December 2026.
The first important dates are:
18 August 2026: Bank feeds from a small group of banks will be disconnected.
From 1 September 2026: Legacy NAB bank feed connections will begin to be disconnected.
August to December 2026: Other banks will follow according to QuickBooks’ disconnection timetable.
The exact date will depend on the bank and the type of connection currently linked to your QuickBooks account.
What is Open Banking?
Open Banking is the newer and more secure way for QuickBooks to receive transaction information from your bank.
Rather than continuing to rely on an older bank feed connection, the business owner authorises the connection directly through their bank. This generally provides a more reliable and secure link between the bank account and QuickBooks.
What happens if you do nothing?
Once your existing legacy feed is disconnected, new bank transactions may stop importing automatically into QuickBooks.
This does not mean your transactions or bookkeeping records will disappear. However, it could leave a gap in your bank feed and create extra work when it is time to complete your bookkeeping, BAS or tax return.
You may then need to manually upload transactions or reconnect the account before your books can be brought up to date.
Who needs to complete the upgrade?
The upgrade usually needs to be authorised by someone who has access to both:
The business bank account; and
The QuickBooks company file.
Because the process involves giving permission through the bank, your bookkeeper or accountant may not be able to complete every step on your behalf.
If you do not currently have access to your QuickBooks file, you may need to be invited as a Company Admin before you can authorise the new bank feed.
What should you do now?
Log in to QuickBooks and check whether you have received a notification asking you to upgrade your bank connection.
Follow the prompts to:
Select the bank account that needs upgrading.
Sign in through your bank’s secure authorisation process.
Give permission for the account information to be shared with QuickBooks.
Confirm that the correct bank account is connected.
Check that new transactions begin importing correctly.
Do not create a brand-new account in the QuickBooks chart of accounts unless you have confirmed that this is necessary. Connecting the new feed to the wrong account can result in duplicated transactions and extra cleanup work.

A note for NAB customers
QuickBooks has advised that legacy NAB bank feed connections will begin disconnecting from 1 September 2026.
NAB customers should complete the upgrade as soon as possible rather than waiting until September. This provides time to resolve any access, login or authorisation problems before the existing feed stops working.
Need help with your QuickBooks bank feed?
The safest approach is to complete the upgrade before your bank’s disconnection deadline and then check that the account is importing correctly.
Tradies Bookkeeping .Com can help you review your QuickBooks file, identify possible duplicate accounts and make sure your transactions continue flowing into the correct place.
QuickBooks Customer Success is also available Monday to Sunday from 8:00 am to 7:00 pm AEST on 1800 046 038.
Please do not leave the change until BAS or tax time. A few minutes spent upgrading the connection now could prevent hours of costly bookkeeping cleanup later.
